What is the CURB-2 Study?

What is the CURB-2 Study?

 CURB-2 is a Phase II clinical trial conducted at The Center on Substance Use and Health San Francisco Department of Public Health and 11 other sites across the country. The study is examining if the combination of extended-release naltrexone and extended-release buprenorphine can help treat cocaine use disorder.

What is the CURB-2 Study?

The medication is a combination of extended-release naltrexone and extended-release buprenorphine. Researchers believe the medication may produce an effect in the brain to reduce cocaine withdrawal symptoms.

The screening process can take up to three weeks to determine if you are eligible to participate. This process includes meeting with a research associate, clinical staff and various other procedures, which will be explained to you during the informed consent process.

If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will be asked to attend 2 visits each week to our office at Market St. and Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco up to 16 weeks.

You will be randomly assigned to either take the active medications or placebo (inactive substance). Throughout the study, you will complete various activities and procedures such as self-report questionnaires, interview questions, physical examinations, and blood sample collections.

Your time and contribution are of tremendous value to public health research. If you are eligible, you can earn up to $1603 for completing all study activities and procedures.
